In Hawaii, eight nonprofit groups received federal funds totaling $4 million dollars to assist with homelessness prevention.  This money is from the Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program, part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. Two of the recipients were legal aid programs including the Legal Aid Society of Hawaii (receiving $300,000) and Volunteer Legal Services Hawai'i (receiving $100,000).
