Federal Funding Roundtable Debriefed and Stimulus Opportunities for Legal Services
Last month at the NLADA Annual Conference in Denver, Colorado, there were two conference sessions that provided information on funding opportunities for legal aid. One session was the Federal Funding Roundtable (Roundtable) led by Meredith McBurney, ABA Resource Center for Access to Justice and Don Saunders, director, NLADA Civil Legal Services. This session provided an update on federal funding from non-LSC sources and allowed the field to share information, ideas and strategies on raising and increasing these funds.
The other session was on legal services and the stimulus, facilitated by John Bouman, Sargent Shriver Center National Center on Poverty Law and Sharon Dietrich, Community Legal Services of Philadelphia. This session specifically addressed TANF Emergency Contingency spending and unemployment insurance stimulus payments and discussed other important stimulus funding sources.
The attached document provides a summary of these two sessions that we wanted to share with the field. Please consider these resources as you explore ways, particularly around the stimulus money, to raise new funds.
